Cool off with a treat from the ice cream truck outside, but please leave your own pups at home - this event is all about meeting new furry friends.

PAWGUST Challenge

From August 10 to 24, Team Dog and Team Cat will battle it out in AARF's first-ever PAWGUST fundraising challenge, and we need your help to reach our goal of raising $20,000 for homeless animals in need. 

And there's even more excitement: a generous donor is matching what we raise dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000, doubling the impact of the campaign and helping even more animals in need.

Here's what you do:

  • Choose your team - Team Dog or Team Cat.

  • Support Team Dog or Team Cat, or one of our PAWGUST Champions by making a donation to their fundraising page.

  • Share the campaign with your friends and family to help spread the word.

Every gift - whether it's $10, $50, $250, or more - helps provide lifesaving medical care, nutritious food, safe shelter, and the love our rescue animals need while they wait for their forever families.

International Cat Day Adoption Special

International Cat Day Adoption Special

In celebration of International Cat Day on August 8, AARF is launching a weeklong cat and kitten adoption special. From August 3 to 8, community members can adopt a single cat or kitten for $100, or two cats or kittens for $150. The promotional fee includes spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatments, a FeLV/FIV test, and a microchip.

“Every cat deserves a loving home, and International Cat Day is the perfect reminder of that,” said Bailey Larson, AARF’s intake and adoption coordinator. “We have so many wonderful cats waiting for their chance to be loved — and sometimes, the best thing you can do is adopt two so they can keep each other company.”

AARF has many kittens and cats ready for adoption, all viewable at Available Cats — AARF. Some adoptable cats are staying at the AARF House, 302 Thurston Street in Winston-Salem, where visitors can meet them in person. Others are currently living with foster families and will be onsite during AARF’s weekly cat adoption fair on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prospective adopters can streamline the process by submitting applications in advance at www.aarfws.org/adopt.

Throughout the month of July, Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County is collecting donations for AARF at its ReStore location in Winston-Salem. Those who donate will receive 20% off their purchase of donated goods at the ReStore. Items being collected include:

  • Other pet supplies

PURE SWEAT GIVES BACK! Pure Sweat Sauna Studio in Winston-Salem is commemorating its one-year anniversary with a week of celebrations and giving back to the community.

From April 26 to May 2, 25% of service sales will be donated to AARF to help rescue and find loving homes for local animals in need.

On Saturday, May 2, Pure Sweat will host an open house featuring free mini saunas and cold plunges and a Wellness Expo with local vendors. Experience rejuvenating mini sauna sessions and invigorating cold plunges, plus meet local wellness experts offering products and advice. Stop by the AARF table to learn about adoptable dogs and cats and how to get involved through fostering, adopting, and volunteering.  Follow Pure Sweat on Instagram @puresweatwinstonsalem for the latest information on Wellness Expo vendors and week-long specials.
